What is a lipoma?
A lipoma is a benign lump made of fat tissue. They are usually soft, painless, and can be moved under the skin. Lipomas often show up on the back, shoulders, neck, and arms, but they can form anywhere on the body. They typically don't cause issues, but can sometimes be uncomfortable if they press on nerves or other tissues. Lipomas may need to be surgically removed if they grow large and/or symptomatic.
What is a sebaceous cyst?
A sebaceous cyst, or epidermoid cyst, is a small, harmless bump under the skin. It forms when a hair follicle or oil gland gets blocked, causing a build-up of keratin and debris. They are often found on the face, neck, back, and scalp but can appear anywhere on the body. Usually painless, they can become uncomfortable if inflamed or infected, requiring medical care. Treatment may involve draining or surgical removal if needed.
